Kylian Mbappe is proving why Real Madrid signed him as he continues to lead the line for Los Blancos in the 2026-27 season. The France captain has been in top form since the start of La Liga.
The 27-year-old forward has become central to Madrid's attack since joining from PSG in 2024. His pace, intelligent runs behind defence and clinical finishing have made him one of La Liga's most dangerous players and a Ballon d'Or contender.
Mbappe is also captaining France as they prepare for the 2026 World Cup in USA, Mexico and Canada next summer, where Les Bleus are among the favorites to win.
Key Player For Real Madrid This Season
Since his move, Mbappe has adapted quickly to life in Spain despite initial doubts. In 2025-26, he scored 29 La Liga goals and won the Pichichi award, helping Madrid win La Liga and reach Champions League final. This season 2026-27, he already has 6 goals in 5 league games.
His partnership with Vinicius Jr on the left and Jude Bellingham behind him has given Real Madrid multiple attacking options. With Vinicius cutting inside and Bellingham making late runs, Mbappe gets space to attack central defenders — his favourite zone.
Under new manager Xabi Alonso who replaced Ancelotti in summer 2026, Mbappe is playing more centrally as a number 9, not wide. Alonso's system uses him as focal point with Endrick and Vinicius supporting.
France Captain Eyes World Cup Glory
As France captain since 2023, Mbappe is preparing to lead his country at the 2026 World Cup. He won the tournament in 2018 at age 19 and reached the final in 2022 where he scored a hat-trick against Argentina but lost on penalties.
Now 27 and at peak, this may be his best chance to win second World Cup as leader. France are in qualifying and have qualified already, topping their group. Deschamps says Mbappe's leadership has matured — less individual, more team.
The striker says his focus is on winning trophies with both club and country this year: "I want to win Champions League with Madrid and then World Cup with France. That's the dream."
What's Next For Mbappe
Real Madrid will be looking to Mbappe to deliver in the Champions League group stages and later knockout. With his contract running until 2029 with option to 2030, Madrid see him as the face of the club post-Benzema and post-Ronaldo era.
Fans expect more goals as the season enters decisive months from October. Madrid are top of La Liga by 2 points over Barcelona and have started Champions League with win.
For Nigerian fans, Mbappe is hugely popular — his boots and jerseys top sales in Lagos and Jos. His story from Bondy suburb to world star inspires many young strikers.
M2NICE Stat Watch: Mbappe has 332 career club goals at 27. If he stays fit, he could hit 500 before 32. At Madrid, he averages 0.92 goals per game — better than his PSG rate. Key improvement: his link-up play. Assists up from 5 to 11 last season under Alonso system.
