The Plateau State Government has declared an immediate dusk-to-dawn curfew across Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas following emerging security threats in the region.
The directive, which takes effect from Monday, September 21, 2026, restricts movement between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM daily until further notice, as part of efforts to restore calm and protect lives and property. The move comes months after Governor Caleb Mutfwang pledged to tackle insecurity in Plateau and vowed to protect lives and property.
Government Imposes Curfew To Curb Security Threats
The curfew was announced in a press release signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, mni, on behalf of the Plateau State Government.
According to the statement, the "Time is Now" administration led by Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang took the decision to allow security agencies to stabilize the affected areas and prevent any breakdown of law and order within local communities.
"Effective today, Monday, September 21, 2026, the restriction of movement is between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM until further notice to allow law enforcement agencies to stabilize the area, protect lives, and prevent any breakdown of law and order."
Residents of the three affected LGAs are expected to fully comply with the directive for their own safety. The government has also advised citizens to plan their commercial, agricultural and personal activities strictly around the curfew hours.
Ban On Motorcycles And Strict Enforcement
The Plateau State Government further disclosed that security operatives have been directed to strictly enforce the curfew and the immediate ban on the use of motorcycles throughout the affected jurisdictions.
While reassuring law-abiding citizens, the government stated that security personnel will operate with professionalism during the enforcement period. This reinforces the governor's earlier commitment as reported when Mutfwang pledged to tackle insecurity and protect lives and property in Plateau.
Residents Urged To Remain Law-Abiding
The administration of Governor Mutfwang urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that will aid in maintaining peace.
Citizens were also advised to avoid unnecessary movement during the restricted hours to avoid hardship or friction with law enforcement agents.
