The Plateau State Government has condemned in the strongest terms the violent attack reported on Thursday, September 24, 2026 in Kassa, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, which resulted in the loss of lives, describing the incident as deeply regrettable and unacceptable.

The incident, which occurred along the Jos-Barkin Ladi corridor, has sparked tension in the area, with residents calling for improved security. The government said the attack on innocent citizens will not be tolerated under any guise.

According to verified reports, the deceased have been identified as Buhari Yusuf, Aminu Ahmad, Nasiru Abdullahi, Gambo Abubakar and Muhammad Abdul Rahman. They were buried on Monday at the Muslim Cemetery in Bokkos, while two others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.

“Government commiserates with the families of those who lost their loved ones and assures the people of Kassa and the entire state that security agencies are already taking necessary steps to fish out the perpetrators.”

The statement was part of the official release from the Plateau State Government, assuring that security agencies have been mobilized to track down the attackers and prevent further occurrences in the area.

Government Assures Safe Passage On Jos-Barkin Ladi Highway

The Plateau State Government has assured members of the public, especially commuters and travelers, of safe passage along the Jos-Barkin Ladi highway following the incident.

Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, announced that security operatives have been deployed to the highway and surrounding communities, with a dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed on Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu LGAs to restore calm.

Call For Peace And No Reprisal

The government appreciated the expression of grief by the families and communities of the deceased but urged all residents to sustain peace in the affected community and avoid any form of reprisal attack.

Security stakeholders including Operation Enduring Peace and MACBAN have also called for calm and thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

M2NICE Editorial Note: The Jos-Barkin Ladi highway has witnessed recurring security breaches in recent months. The latest Kassa attack adds to concerns over farmer-herder clashes in Plateau, making the government's assurance of safe passage critical for travelers and businesses using the route.
