The Plateau State Government has condemned fresh attacks by gunmen in Mangu and Jos South Local Government Areas. The government is urging residents to remain calm and avoid reprisal attacks.
The condemnation was made during a press briefing in Jos by Mr. Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to Governor Caleb Mutfwang. He said the government is deeply concerned about the renewed violence.
According to the state government, security agencies have been directed to intensify operations in the affected areas to restore peace and protect lives and property.
Government Condemns Attacks In Mangu And Jos South
Mr. Bere stated that the attacks are unfortunate and do not reflect the peaceful nature of Plateau people. He called on community and religious leaders to help preach peace.
The government warned against taking the law into one's own hands. It said any form of retaliation will only escalate the crisis and lead to more loss of lives.
Residents were advised to provide useful information to security agencies to enable quick response and arrest of perpetrators.
Security Agencies Directed To Act
The Governor has ordered increased patrols and surveillance in all vulnerable communities across the two LGAs. Joint security teams are already on ground.
The state government assured citizens that it is working closely with federal security agencies to fish out those behind the attacks.
Governor Mutfwang reiterated his administration's commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents regardless of tribe or religion.
Call For Peace And Unity
The government appealed to Plateau people to continue to live together in peace and resist any attempt to divide them along ethnic or religious lines.
Citizens were also urged to go about their lawful businesses while remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious movements to authorities.
The state government promised to support victims of the attacks and ensure that those displaced are properly taken care of.
