Bad news for Super Eagles fans. Nigeria will start their 2027 AFCON qualification campaign without star striker Victor Osimhen.
Galatasaray confirmed today, September 7, that Osimhen is suffering from a "moderate to advanced level strain with bleeding in the right groin area." The club said his treatment is ongoing and he should return after the international break.
This rules the Galatasaray forward out of Nigeria’s September fixtures. The Super Eagles face Madagascar on September 25 in Nigeria, before travelling to play Guinea-Bissau on September 29.
Osimhen, Onuachu Doubts Grow
Reports this morning also say Trabzonspor forward Paul Onuachu is a doubt for the qualifiers.
Scans showed Osimhen went off in the 33rd minute on September 4 with the groin injury.
Big Blow For Chelle’s Side
Osimhen’s absence leaves Nigeria without one of their most important attacking players for the start of the campaign. He has been central to the Super Eagles in recent years.
Nigeria are in Group L alongside Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau and co-hosts Tanzania. Only the highest-ranked team apart from Tanzania will advance.
Who should lead the attack now? Boniface? Dessers? Lookman as false 9? Drop your pick
