The Federal Government has announced plans to give 100MB free data daily to Nigerian students in tertiary institutions starting October 1, 2026. The initiative aims to support e-learning and research.
The Minister of Communications said the program is part of FG’s digital inclusion policy to ensure students can access educational materials online without data barriers.
NCC confirmed that all major networks including MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9mobile will participate in the free data scheme for registered students nationwide.
Who Qualifies for the Free 100MB Data
All students in Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education with valid school ID and NIN are eligible. The data will be renewed daily at 12:00am.
Students must register their SIM with NIN and link it to their school portal for verification. One SIM per student will be allowed.
How to Register and Get the Free Data
Registration details will be released by NCC and the Ministry of Education before October 1. Students are advised to ensure their SIM is active and linked to NIN.
A short code and USSD process will be announced for students to opt-in. The 100MB will be for educational websites, e-learning platforms and research only.

This move is expected to reduce the cost of learning for millions of students and improve access to online lectures, journals and digital libraries across Nigeria.
Stakeholders say the daily data will help bridge the digital divide and support FG’s push for a digital economy.
